Do not like the standard keyboard mapping layout? Then assign the actions you truly need. Pick an awkward key and map it to any other keyboard, mouse or controller button. Besides, you can emulate media keys or mouse moves. Do not forget to press Unmap once you add some keyboard mapping to switch the key's native behavior off.

Do not limit yourself to one action per key. Add different mappings to Single, Long, Double, Triple, Start and Release presses. Tap the key once to emulate the first action. Press and hold it – and get a keyboard macro.

Do not own a fancy macro keyboard? No problem, reWASD will create it for you. Pick the key that will activate a combo, unmap it and add a sequence you deserve.

reWASD allows you to record or add controller and keyboard macro combinations with pauses and breaks, simultaneous button presses and customizable press duration. In addition, you can try Turbo to fire unlimited taps while you actually press and hold the key or Toggle to emulate the pressed key by a single tap.

Please note that Turbo and Toggle and keyboard macro functionality are parts of our Advanced Features.

How to disable a key on keyboard

This annoying Sleep key seems to be put in the place where you always hit it accidentally. Let's stop this misunderstanding. With reWASD, you will quickly find out how to disable a key on keyboard and will never press the one that you do not intend.

Choose the key, press Mute, then press Apply. Now, this key is disabled in the system. Note that we keep essential keys like Alt+Ctrl+Delete unmapped to ensure you don't lose full keyboard functionality. This shortcut also acts as an emergency exit to disable reWASD mappings if needed.

No gamepad? No problem. With reWASD, you can emulate a controller using your keyboard and mouse. Select a gamepad button from the extensive list of reWASD mappings and press Apply to create a Virtual Xbox 360 controller. As you tap keyboard keys, we simulate gamepad buttons, allowing you to enjoy controller aim assist while using a keyboard. However, we advise against using this feature in competitive games. You're here for customization, not cheats, right? ;)

How to add more keyboard mappings and combinations

How to add more keyboard mappings and combinations

Even the biggest keyboard doesn't have all the symbols and commands you may need. To get more, we often use Shift. That's a pity that a standard keyboard has only one. Want more? reWASD will help. With our powerful mapper & keyboard macro program, you can add 10 Shift modifiers and get 10 keyboards at your service.

Choose a key that will work as a Shift. Then, all the keyboard layout is ready for the new keyboard mappings. Adding more activators and shortcuts mentioned above, you get an almost unlimited number of actions. In reWASD, there is a kind of Caps Lock mode too. Just do not forget to check Toggle for the modifier, and you won't need to hold it to switch to another layout.

reWASD supports several official gamepads, keyboards and mice. Moreover, you can mix those devices and create groups of them. Let's say you have a keyboard and mouse and you want to add a keyboard macro that will be activated only when a mouse button is pressed. No problem. Group your input devices, set a mouse button as a Shift and add keyboard mappings to the keyboard inside this Shift.

You can also create cross-device macros with reWASD. Combine multiple keyboards for enhanced functionality. If you feel something is missing, we invite you to share your ideas. We welcome your feedback on Facebook, Discord, and our Forum. Join us on this journey!

Questions? We have answers

reWASD is a remapping application for keyboards, mice, and controllers on Windows. It lets you remap any key to a different action, create keyboard macros, disable unwanted keys, emulate a gamepad, and expand your layout with up to 10 Shift modifiers - all without a dedicated macro keyboard.

Select the key in reWASD, choose a new action from the mapping list - keyboard key, mouse control, media key, or gamepad button - then click Apply. To disable the key's original behavior, click Unmap before applying the new mapping.

Yes. reWASD supports six activation types per key: Single, Long, Double, Triple, Start, and Release press. Each can trigger a different action, so one physical key can perform up to six distinct functions depending on how it is pressed.

Select the key that will trigger the macro, click Unmap to disable its default behavior, then open the Combo Editor and add your sequence of keys, pauses, and button presses. You can record the sequence or build it manually. Turbo and Toggle modes are also available as part of the Rapid Fire advanced feature.

Select the key in reWASD, click Unmap, then click Apply. The key will stop sending any signal to the system. Note: Some keys cannot be muted by design to ensure safe interaction with reWASD and prevent loss of access to essential controls. These keys include Main Enter, Right Ctrl, Right Alt, End, and Delete. Ctrl+Alt+Delete is always handled as an emergency shortcut to disable all reWASD mappings.

Yes. Select the virtual controller you want to emulate, choose any of its buttons from the reWASD mapping list, and assign it to a keyboard key, then click Apply. reWASD creates the selected virtual controller - such as Xbox 360, Xbox One, DualShock 3, DualShock 4, or Nintendo Switch Pro - and translates your keyboard inputs into gamepad button presses system-wide.

reWASD offers several ways to expand the number of available actions beyond the physical keys on your keyboard. Use up to 10 Shift layers within a configuration to create additional mapping sets, assign multiple actions to the same key using Activators such as Single Press, Double Press, and Long Press, and create Shortcuts that trigger actions or switch mappings using key combinations.

Yes. reWASD lets you group multiple input devices - keyboards, mice, and gamepads - and set cross-device Shifts and Shortcuts. For example, you can assign a mouse button as a Shift so that keyboard macros only activate while that mouse button is held.
